McKinney Art House is a community-driven art center located in a charming historic 132+ year old art house in McKinney, Texas. We offer a variety of art and pottery classes for children, teens, and adults, along with workshops, summer camps, art parties, and homeschool art classes. Our mission is to foster creativity and provide opportunities for artistic expression in our community.

Registration is available online through our website. Each class is managed by independent teaching artists, so payments are made directly to them. To enroll for art classes, visit our art class schedule, select your desired class, and follow the registration instructions. To enroll for Pottery classes, visit our pottery class schedule, select your desired class, and follow the registration instruction available after descriptions.
🔹 Q: How much do classes cost?
Our pricing varies depending on several factors, including the type of class (weekly, one-time, or private lessons), the medium being taught (e.g., pottery, painting, etc.), the materials required, and whether the class is part of a camp (full day, half day, or limited day camps). Additionally, all of our classes are priced by the individual artists who teach them and payment goes directly to the artists.

Yes! We offer specialized preschool classes in our Storybook Studios, designed for young children to explore their creativity in a playful and nurturing environment. Yes! Our Homeschool Classes are tailored to meet the creative needs of homeschool students. These classes focus on artistic development in a variety of mediums, including:

🔹 Q: What are your pottery class options?
Our pottery program includes:
- Weekly Classes: This is in a group setting that is ongoing every week and paid monthly until you decide discontinue or go for different options
- Private Lessons: Our artists provide private lessons for anyone who would like to learn in smaller settings with dedicated time with the teaching artists.
- Studio Membership: If you have clay experience to be independent and want to have a studio acess to come in at your own schedule and use the facilities, Provides 24/7 access to our pottery studio for members.
- Pottery Workshops: If you are looking to just have a pottery experience by yourself or with your friend or family member, you can try out our Private Pottery experience classes which is either one time for one time basic or 2 time for comprehensive experience.
🔹 Q: What does it mean when a class is waitlisted?
When a class is waitlisted, it means that all available spots are currently filled. We notify everyone on the waitlist about availability as soon as a spot opens up, and the first person to respond will be offered the spot. This process ensures that the spot is filled quickly and efficiently, as we may not have enough time to go through the waitlist individually and provide an opportunity to everyone. By registering and getting on the waitlist, you’ll receive an automatic notification as soon as a spot becomes available
🔹 Q: I see some of your classes waitlisted, is that accurate? Do I need to pay to be on the waitlist?
Yes, some of our classes, mainly ongoing weekly classes, are currently waitlisted due to high demand. You do not need to pay to be on the waitlist. Simply register for the class and you'll be automatically added to the waitlist. If a spot becomes available, we will notify you as soon as possible, and you’ll have the first opportunity to join the class.

Yes! We host a variety of one-time workshops that cater to different occasions:
- Date Night: A fun, relaxed evening where you and your partner can create together.
- Girls' Night Out: Gather your friends for a creative night of art and fun.

🔹 Q: What types of parties do you offer?
We offer creative and fun art and pottery-themed parties for all ages, including:

🔹 Q: How can I become a Studio Member?
To become a studio member, simply visit our Pottery Membership Page and register. Membership is open to potters of all skill levels who are comfortable working independently.
Support Our Local Artists: If you are enrolled in an ongoing weekly class or private lessons with any of our independent teaching artists, you will receive a 50% discount on your monthly studio membership while actively taking the class.

🔹 Q: What is included in the Pottery Studio Membership?
As a member, you’ll have the freedom to use the studio at any time during the week. Your membership includes:
- All pottery tools, wheels, slab rollers, and kilns (community firing managed by Art House).
- Unrestricted access to a dedicated member-only studio space even during ongoing classes—so you can visit anytime.
- A wide range of cone 6 glazes and underglazes included in the membership.
- Dedicated shelf space for your work, with the option to purchase additional space for $30/month.
- Up to 12 average-sized pieces (approx. 150 cubic inches per piece) fired per month, included in your studio fee. This firing allowance is valued at over $100 elsewhere, where firing is often charged separately.
- If you exceed the included firing allowance, additional pieces can be fired at a rate of $0.05 per cubic inch (this includes both bisque and glaze firing).
This membership should meet the general needs of most potters unless you are producing work for sale or are a high-volume potter. If you require more, you can simply pay for the additional firing as needed.

Yes, we host events like the Annual MAST Weekend that brings together the McKinney Art House community to celebrate creativity. We also have exhibitions, open houses, and occasional sales where our students can showcase their work.

🔹 Q: What are the policies for art camps?
For art camps, we have specific guidelines regarding registration, cancellations, refunds, and attendance. These policies vary depending on whether the camp is full-day, half-day, or limited-day. 🔹 Q: What are the policies for One-Time Experience and Workshops?
- Cancellation Policy: Once you are registered for a One-Time Experience or Workshop, your slot is considered taken and is non-cancellable or non-changeable. However, if there is a waitlist for the class, and your spot can be filled by someone on the waitlist, we can offer you the option to either move to a different date or cancel your booking. In this case, we will issue a refund, minus a 3% credit card processing fee.
- No Show: If you miss your scheduled session, you are considered a no-show. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you another date or time, and no refund will be provided for missed sessions.
🔹 Q: Do you offer employment or job opportunities at McKinney Art House?
At McKinney Art House, we are a community-driven space and do not offer traditional employment. However, we provide opportunities for artists to teach their own classes or lease private studio spaces under the umbrella of McKinney Art House. If you are an artist looking for a studio space or wanting to teach art or pottery classes, we’d love to hear from you.
