Drawing and Painting Class

This is a basic drawing and painting class designed to introduce new students to the skills required to accurately render what they see. It is also an opportunity for the more advanced artist to gain some visual and creative practice in drawing and painting that will enhance any artistic endeavors.

Pottery Wheel for Kids, Teens & Adults

This is the class for the Artist that wants to learn how to throw on the wheel. Basic hand building skills will be developed, as each child gets one-on-one attention from Ms. Knox. All pieces will be fired and glazed.

Drawing Funny – Learn to draw cartoons!

First class begins Monday, January 5th, 2015.

Do you love the cartoons found in magazines like The New Yorker? Do you like comic strips in the paper? Ever wanted to learn how to create your own? This weekly class explores the world of cartooning and teaches you the tools and techniques needed to write and draw your very own cartoons!
We will explore how to develop and writes ideas and how to turn those ideas into cartoons. We will also learn what you can do with those cartoons if your desire is to take your new cartooning skills to the next level!
Open to all skill levels. Cartooning is as much about the idea as it is the art. We won’t learn how to draw, but how to draw funny! We will make art and idea work together.
Classes are weekly. Course runs for 1 month.
Materials needed are few and are simple. Each student will receive a materials list.

Advanced Pottery Wheel Class: for Kids, Teens and Adults

This is an advanced pottery wheel, sculpture and handbuilding class designed for the Artist that loves working with clay, is self-motivated, creative and willing to work hard. Ms Knox will guide your student in developing their skills and encourage them to think of pieces for local, state and national shows. They will explore various surfaces and firing techniques.

Drawing for Teens

A great course to strengthen your drawing skills, develop your eye, work on compositions and build your portfolio. As a bonus students will have the opportunity to translate an image into a drypoint etching or a lithograph. Ongoing Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor Class

Bring your painting ideas, or just your desire to paint in watercolor. Students will work on paintings of their choice, with guidance and gentle critique from Ms. Wrenwood.
Learn techniques to achieve your goals for your painting. Get suggestions on design/composition and focal point. Discover ways to fix a mistake or save a “ruined” painting. Loosen up and try new methods of painting. Have fun with watercolor! This class will encourage the creative spirit in artists of all skill levels.

Beginning Watercolor Class

A new class that runs concurrent with the above Intermediate/Advanced class begins August 27. There will be 6 classes to be held Aug 27, Sept 3, 10, 17, 24, & Oct 1. Explore the basics of Watercolor: choosing the right brushes, paint and paper, mixing and applying paint, correcting mistakes, and saving the white of the paper. Experiment with exciting tricks and techniques; all in a non-stressful, fun environment. Students will create several finished paintings, while getting a good feel for a unique, enjoyable, and very beautiful medium. This class will run concurrently with the intermediate class.
Taught by Renee F. Wrenwood, a prize winning local watercolorist and art instructor. She loves the medium and is happiest with a loaded brush in her hand.

Drawing is an important foundation for other artistic disciplines, and provides an excellent starting place as students first learn to truly see and develop their sense of observation in recording their perceptions through a variety of drawing mediums. Having gained confidence and proficiency through this "eye training", students embark on an exploration of art styles and mediums designed to enhance creativity, including painting, clay sculpture, and more. Students will also study the importance and real-life applications of art throughout history and in our world today, rounding out their art experience and inspiring young artists with purpose.

Time: Fridays from 3:00-4:30 and 4:30-6:00 (No summer classes - class begins September 12 )

We have a waiting list, in most cases, and/or turn people away because of limited space. Your fee pays for your spot, your shelf, and the supplies that we purchase for your class. Even though you may not be here, we are firing pieces, mixing glazes, hauling clay, purchasing paint and brushes and canvas, not to mention paying the light bill.

So, if you are going to miss class, please call, email, text, send a carrier, and we will arrange a make-up, if possible. If the month is shortened, due to holiday or other closure, your fees will be prorated. The minimum tuition is for one month. When you are needing to stop the class, please clean your shelf and pick up all art pieces within 30 days.

Class Descriptions

Home School

Home School classes meet once a week for 1-2 hours. The classes are grouped by age and parents are free to attend for an additional fee. The students will be given lessons in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, clay and pottery wheel. Instruction can be individualized, based upon the needs of the students. These classes meet mid-Jan to mid-May. Students may start, mid month. Class limit is 6-8 students.

Clay and Pottery Wheel

Clay classes meet once a week for 2-3 hours. Students will receive instruction in hand building and throwing on the wheel, along with slab rolling, sculpture and various glazing techniques. This is a student centered learning class. After learning the basics, the clay students choose what they want to create. Fee includes up to 12 pieces fired and glazed, clay is extra. You may start at anytime, but minimum class enrollment is 4 classes.

Due to limited space, pieces must be picked up within 30 days of last class.

Painting and Drawing

These classes meet once a week for 1-3 hours, and are taught by professional Artists. Several teachers have degrees in Art and /or Art Education. The tuition includes all materials, unless designated by the teacher. Students may start at anytime. Please contact the teacher directly.
